How to get Spray Starch off a Teflon Iron

Save

Ironing often involves using a spray starch to achieve crisp results in clothing. Over time, using spray starch with a Teflon iron will create a build-up of starch on the surface of the Teflon. There are several options for cleaning spray starch off the Teflon surface of the iron.

Things You'll Need

  • White vinegar
  • Clean cloths
  • Baking soda
  • Nylon scrubber
  • Ironing board
  • Newspaper
  • Pour a small amount of white vinegar onto a clean cloth. Wipe the surface of the cool iron with the damped cloth to remove the spray starch. Rub briskly to loosen and remove the starch residue.

  • Mix white vinegar with baking soda to create a paste. Use another clean cloth to rub the paste onto the surface of the iron. Scrub to remove the starch residue and then rinse the cleaning paste off carefully. Dry the surface of the iron to see if the starch residue is gone.

  • Reapply the white vinegar paste with the nylon scrubber to work at the starch residue more vigorously. Use the scrubber over the entire Teflon surface, working the paste in well. Rinse the paste off with plain water and dry with a clean cloth.

  • Set the iron to the hottest setting. Place a sheet of newspaper onto an ironing board and run the hot iron over the newspaper. Continue ironing the newspaper until any starch residue is gone.
