How to Replace a Whirlpool Range Oven Heating Element

When working properly, the heating elements in a Whirlpool range oven cook your favorite recipes. There are times however when heating elements need to be replaced. It is not difficult to replace a Whirlpool range oven heating element, and you can repair the baking or broiling element yourself.     • 1

      Disconnect the power supply to the Whirlpool range. The best way to do this is to turn the circuit breaker off to the range inside the home's electrical panel.

      Open the oven door and remove the the upper and lower cooking racks.

      Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the two screws that secure the baking heating element mounting plate to the rear of the oven.

      Pull the baking heating element out just enough to access the terminals on the end of it. Use a pair of needle-nose pliers and grab the lead of each wire connected to the heating element terminals. Pull each wire off of the terminals and remove the element from the oven.

      Place the new baking heating element inside the Whirlpool range oven and slide the wire leads over the terminal ends.

      Position the baking element mounting plate in the rear of the oven and secure it to the oven using the two mounting screws.

      Slide the Whirlpool range oven away from the wall so that you have access to the rear panel.

      Use a screwdriver to remove the screws that secure the rear panel of the oven. Set the rear panel out of the work area.

      Use a pair of needle-nose pliers to disconnect the wires from the broil heating element terminals from the rear of the oven. Make sure to grab the wires at the leads to prevent damaging the wires.

      Remove the two screws located inside the oven that mount the broil heating element to the top. Use a screwdriver to remove the two mounting screws that mount the element mounting plate to the rear oven wall and pull the element out of the oven.

      Place the replacement broil heating element inside the oven and secure the mounting plate to the rear of the oven using the attaching screws. Reconnect the mounting clips in the top of the oven using the two retaining screws.

      Go behind the oven and push the wire leads over the new broil heating element terminals. Reattach the rear panel of the oven and push the range back against the wall.

      Place the oven racks back inside the oven and close the oven door. Reconnect the power supply by turning on the circuit breaker.
