How to Remove a Radio in a Dodge RAM

The Dodge Ram is one of the more popular pickup trucks sold in America. If you own a Dodge Ram and would like to upgrade your factory sound system, the first step is removing the radio so you can install a new one. It only takes a few minutes to remove the Ram's radio because of the simple dash design.

Instructions

  1. 1995 through 2001 models

    • 1

      Pop your hood and disconnect the negative battery cable for safety.

      Examine the dash panel around the radio and above the steering column. The panel is one piece that covers both items. It must be removed to access the radio.

      Use the tilt feature to lower your steering wheel as far as it will go. Grab the dash panel around the instrument cluster and pull the panel to unclip it from the dash.

      Move down to the part of the panel around the radio. Pull the panel to release the clips, and then carefully pull the entire panel off.

      Remove the two 10-mm bolts securing the radio to the truck. Slide the radio out and disconnect the antenna cable and two wiring harnesses.

    2002 through 2008 models

      Disconnect the negative battery cable for safety.

      Remove the screw directly beneath the air vent to the right of the radio.

    • 8

      Pull off the small panel surrounding the radio. It's attached by clips; no tools are required to remove it.

      Remove the bolts securing the radio and slip the radio out.

      Disconnect the wiring harness and antenna cable from the rear.
