U.S. Bank makes it easy to do all your banking online. You can pay bills, open a checking and savings account and request a loan through the online system. To open a U.S. Bank account online, you must meet U.S. Bank's browser requirements and security standards. You should be at least 18 years old, a legal resident of the U.S., and have a Social Security number and state identification card (such as a drivers license, state ID or military ID).

Select your banking package, savings account and credit card.

Choose free, elite, silver elite or student checking to open a checking account, or select standard, goal, money market or elite money market to open a savings account. You must be at least 55 years old to open a "Silver Elite Checking" account and younger than 25 years old to open a "Student Checking" account.

Enter a promotion code if you have one and pick "Yes" if you'd like to open a joint account.

Complete the section for the "USA Patriot Act," which protects against terrorism and money-laundering activities.

Indicate whether you will use the account for business, if you will withdraw or deposit $5,000 or more (cash) at a time, if anyone other than you or immediate family members will make cash deposits into the account, if you plan to send/receive monthly wire transfers, and if you are a senior foreign political official, family member or a close associate.
