How to Write a Third Grade Story
Third graders are just learning how to write using paragraphs and how to include the elements of a story when they write. They should be able to use five paragraphs to write a story and include information about the setting, characters, plot, climax and conclusion. Third graders should also be learning how to use adjectives to make a story more interesting.

1
Start your first paragraph by introducing the characters and setting. Stick with only one or two characters and use interesting adjectives to describe both the characters and the setting. Try to describe the setting without coming right out and saying where it is.
-
2
Create an adventure for your characters. In the second paragraph, they should set out on an adventure or some type of task. Summarize what their goal is. Introduce secondary characters here if you wish.

3
Create a problem for your characters in the third paragraph. This will be the climax of the story. They should run into a problem that they must figure out how to solve. Here it might be necessary to introduce a villain.
-
4
Solve your character's problem in the fourth paragraph. They should successfully overcome the trial.
-
5
Conclude the story in the fifth paragraph with your characters achieving the goal that you described in your second paragraph.

Tips & Warnings
Advanced writers should expand on the story and use two paragraphs for the middle sections (paragraphs two through four) instead of just one paragraph.
