Delicious recipe for caramel-glazed apple cake that your family will go nuts for.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 cup of light brown sugar
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1.5 cups of vegetable oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 cups of flour
  • 1tsp of baking soda
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • half tsp of nutmeg
  • half tsp salt
  • 5 granny smith apples, cored, peeled and cut in half inch pieces
  • 2tsp of vanilla extract
  • pecans or walnuts optional
  1. Step 1

In addition to the ingredients listed under the "Things you'll need" section, here are a separate list of ingredients that you will need for the glaze that goes on top of the finished cake.

    CARAMEL GLAZE

    4 tablespoons of butter
one fourth cup of granulated sugar
one fourth cup of brown sugar
    pinch of salt
    half cup of heavy cream

  2. Step 2

Start off by preheating your oven to 325 degrees F. Butter and flour your 9x13 baking pan.

  3. Step 3

    PREPARING THE CAKE

In a large mixing bowl, combine both sugars and cooking oil until well blended. Add in the eggs one at a time. Sift together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Once all of your ingredients are well-blended, stir in your chopped apples and vanilla. (Also add in nuts which are optional) Your mixture is now ready to pour into the pan.

  4. Step 4

Bake for 50-70 minutes or until ready. Use a toothpick to insert into the center of the cake. If the toothpick comes out clean, then your apple cake is ready. Let your cake cool and let's start on the glaze.

  5. Step 5

    PREPARING THE GLAZE

Melt butter in a saucepan over low heat. Stir in both granulated and brown sugar. Stir in salt. Cook over medium heat for about two minutes. Add cream and boil for an additional two minutes. Remember to stir constantly.

  6. Step 6

After your cake has cooled, poke several holes throughout the top layer of the cake. Take your glaze and slowly pour over the cake. It is now ready to be devoured. Makes 12 servings.
