How to Find Odd, Uncommon Switch Plates
If you have an older home, the plates covering your light switches and outlets may have uncommon setups, such as an outlet next to two switches, or sets of push buttons to turn lights on and off. When one of these switch or outlet covers gets broken, finding a replacement can be a little harder than grabbing one off the shelf at the nearest hardware store. Browse through the special-order catalogs at home-improvement stores. Many stores have access to thousands of additional items beyond the ones they stock on their shelves. Be prepared to pay a little extra when you special-order a switch or outlet cover.

Check shops that sell used building materials, such as the ReStores operated by Habitat for Humanity. If you're looking for a decorative vintage cover, check antique shops. You also might find old, odd plate covers at garage sales, flea markets and thrift stores.
