Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to oca.Microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp and click the "Download Windows Memory Diagnostic" link. Save the file to your Desktop.

    • 2

Insert a blank CD into your computer's writable CD drive.

    • 3

Open your CD-burning program and select "Burn image to CD" or something similar. Select the file on your Desktop and burn this image to the CD.

    • 4

Reboot your machine with the CD in the drive. The program will scan your RAM for errors. If it reports none, your RAM is most likely fine. If the program finds a problem, it will report that to you. If you get a "Failed" message, the program found an error.

Tips & Warnings

  • It may take many passes to detect bad memory, sometimes the chips have to heat up to fail.

  • This should be pretty easy to do for most people, need any help drop me a line!

  • After finishing the scan, the program will scan again and continue to do so until you exit it.

  • Remove the CD from your computer after you've scanned the memory; otherwise, the program will scan again when you restart your computer.
