How to Properly Tie a Neck Tie

Neck ties can add professional flare to the average mens suit. If you've never tied a neck tie, however, most methods may seem complicated. You don't have to rely on friend or relatives to secure your neck tie, because with the proper instructions and a bit of practice, this process can become as familiar as riding a bike.

Things You'll Need:

• Neck tie
• Collared shirt
• Tie clip (optional)

1. 
   How to tie a neck tie

   Place the neck tie around your neck so that the wide tail hangs to your right, one foot lower than the narrow tail.

2. Bring the wide tail over the narrow tail.

3. Bring the wide tail back under the narrow tail.

4. Bring the wide tail back over the narrow tail once more.

5. Pull the wide tail up and under the space between the tie and your neck.

6. Gently hold the front of the loop around your neck and bring the wide tail up and through that loop.

7. Tighten the neck tie by holding the narrow tail and sliding the knot up towards your neck.
