Things You'll Need:
- water or any drinkable liquid

Step 1
The key to getting rid of hiccups is understanding how your body works. When you inhale air, your diaphragm pulls down your lungs. When you exhale, the diaphragm pushes the air out of the lungs. If this process malfunctions, the lungs suck air into your throat and when it hits your larynx, a hiccup comes out.
-
Step 2
Other times you eat food too quickly, irritating your throat and hiccups occur. Stress can also cause hiccups.
-
Step 3
When you get the hiccups, remember how your body works. Take a small mouthful of water into your mouth.
-
Step 4
Raise your arms over your shoulders. (I put my fingers in my ears, making sure my elbows are level with my shoulders).
-
Step 5
Bend over slightly at your waist and swallow the water at the same time. When you do this, your diaphragm pushes the air up through your throat and takes the hiccups away.
