How to Find a Friend Who Also Uses Orkut
Google's Orkut service is a meeting place for a community of online users who share similar interests. Once you register for a Google email account (Gmail), you can sign into your personalized Orkut page. You can join groups and meet new people. You can also find and communicate with your friends who are members already. Orkut gives you several options for adding your friends from Gmail and from other email providers.

Log in to your Orkut account. Look for the "my friends" box at the lower right corner of your Orkut home page (or your Profile page). If you have not added any friends yet, this box will be blank.

Click "Find More Friends" if you already have an active Gmail account with contacts. Type your Gmail user name in the drop down box and click the "find friends" button. Orkut automatically searches your email contacts and displays a list of the names of Gmail users from your contacts list. To add these Orkut existing members to your friends, select the contacts that you want to add by clicking the checkbox before each name.

Search for a friend, using her actual name. Type a name into the "search orkut" box at the top of your home page. Click the magnifying glass icon next to it. Google will display the name of your friend if she uses her real name in her Orkut profile. Unfortunately, few people use their real names online. You may need to ask your friends for their Orkut profile names, in order to find them and add them to your friend list.

Narrow your search results. Once Orkut displays some results, you can eliminate some of the ones that are not relevant by applying filters. This is extremely useful if you do not know your friend's Orkut profile name or if they have a common name like Jones, which may return thousands of possibilities.

Select gender, age range, location, relationship data or sexual orientation in the "Users" box to target your searches for friends. You can also filter your results by language; English is the default in the United States.

Tips & Warnings
If you have more than one Gmail account, you must type each one into the "find friends" drop down box in order for Orkut to find your friends who are already members. Invite friends who do not have a Gmail account to join Orkut. You can send them an invitation through Orkut's "invite friends" box at the bottom of the left sidebar of your home page.
