1
Open iPhoto and import the images (click "File" then "Import to Library" or use Command-Shift-I) you want in your slideshow if they are not there already. iPhoto uses 72-dots-per-inch image copies of your photos, so this won't affect the originals.
-
2
Create a new album (click the "+" [plus sign] in the bottom left of the iPhoto window, then click "Create"). To get the photos you want into the new album, select them (click Command-A to select all of them, shift-click to select a group or Command-Click to select non-contiguous photos) and drag them into the album icon in the left sidebar.

3
Select the new album, then create a slideshow (click the "+" [plus sign] in the bottom left of the iPhoto window, then select "Slideshow" from the top menu bar, then click "Create." Make sure the box is checked next to "Use selected items in new slideshow").

4
Select the effect (click the button next to "Effect") and transition (click the button next to "Transition") you want for the slideshow. You also can use the Ken Burns Effect (check the box next to "Ken Burns Effect"), which slowly zooms the photo in or out, just as in the effect the famed documentary filmmaker uses.
-
5
Choose the music you want to add to your slideshow (click the "Music" icon, then use the popup browser to search for a song). Once you have the music, use preview (click the "Preview" button) to see how it works. Change the transition rate and choose other settings (click the "Settings" button) to match the music.
-
6
Export the finished slideshow (click "File" then "Export"). This will save it as a QuickTime movie. Then open Toast and select video (click the "Video" button at the top of the Toast window, then click "Video CD" in the left Sidebar). Insert a blank CD and use record disk (click the big red button in the lower right). Your musical slideshow will be burned to the disc, which you can play in various media.
