Act immediately. The longer the dye stays in your hair, the more opportunity it has to set. As soon as you realize your hair color mistake, take the steps to remove it.

2
Wash your hair with very hot water and a harsh shampoo, such as Prell. Lather the shampoo in your hair for 10 minutes, then rinse out with the hottest water you can stand without burning yourself. Repeat if necessary.

Apply warm olive oil to your hair. Heat olive oil in a saucepan over the stove for one minute. When it is warm to the touch, apply the olive oil to your hair, saturating it as well as possible. Wrap your hair in saran wrap and leave in for two hours before rinsing.

Use a hair stripping kit like Color Fix or Loreal Color Zap. Leave the product in for several minutes, or according to the directions. The end result will be a very undesirable color, and you will most likely need to redye your hair with a more natural color after using it.

Consult a professional. Good colorists are trained to know how to take care of hair color accidents. If you can afford the sometimes hefty hair-salon price, getting your hair fixed professionally can save you a headache and a head of damaged hair.

Tips & Warnings
If you dyed your hair with a box from the grocery store or drugstore, the box often has a hotline to call in case of hair emergencies.
Don't bleach your hair yourself if you do not like the way your hair color turned out--your hair will become damaged and could break off.
