How to Install a Floating Tile Floor
A floating tile floor can be constructed with the use of laminate floor tiles. These tiles are available in a variety of finishes to resemble wood, ceramic tile, or natural stone. The laminate tiles click together and do not require the use of any glue or thinset mortar which are typically used during standard tile installation. The installation of a foam underlayment can help reduce noise when walking on a floating floor and cause the floor to give slightly which may reduce fatigue when standing on the floor for long periods of time. Does this Spark an idea?

Installing a Floating Tile Floor
-
1
Sweep and mop the existing floor thoroughly before you begin installation.
-
2
Install a foam underlayment on the clean floor. These foam sheets are usually 1/8 inch thick. Most rooms will require several lengths of the underlayment in order to cover the entire floor.
-
-
3
Cover seams between the pieces of foam underlayment with masking tape.
-
4
Set the first tile onto the floor in one corner of the room. Leave a 1/4 inch wide gap between the tile and each wall.
-
5
Snap the next tile onto the first one and continue this until the entire floor has been covered with tile. The tiles should snap together easily by pressing one tile tightly against a tile already on the floor at a 45 degree angle. Push the tile down towards the floor and it will snap into place. This movement may take a little effort at first but will become easier as you install the floor.
-
6
Cut the end tiles with a miter saw when you reach the end of each row. This allow the tile to fit into places where a full tile won't fit.
