You can fix your computer's cluttered registry for free by downloading and using a registry cleaning utility. Depending on how many unneeded registry files have built up on your system, you may notice a serious increase in system speed after fixing the registry.

Follow one of the links in the Resources section to a free registry cleaning utility. Download and install a program such as "Eusing Registry Cleaner" or "Wise Registry Cleaner."

Click "File" and choose "Backup Full Registry." Click "Save" to create a backup copy of your current registry files in case a file is deleted later that you still need.

Mark each of the check boxes at the left side of the screen. Click "Scan Registry Issue" and wait for the program to search for registry values that need to be fixed.

Click each of the check boxes next to the broken registry values. Click the "Repair Registry Value" button.

Select "OK" once the program has finished running to finish fixing your computer's registry files.

Tips & Warnings
You may need to select different options to run the registry cleaning process if you use a different registry cleaning software utility. Open the program's "Help" menu if you have trouble getting the process started.
Before running the registry cleaning program back up any critical files or programs to an external source, such as a USB jump drive or a rewritable DVD. If a wrong registry entry file is deleted and you need to reinstall your operating system, you will still have the files you need.
