How to Record Streaming Music From an iPhone to a PC
The Apple iPhone is not only well-known for being a popular smart phone, but also for its music playing abilities. The ability to stream and listen to music on an iPhone is one of its most popular features. Because the stream quality is so good, many seek to record this music onto their PC for future replay. Fortunately, this is easy to do and requires only the use of a 3.5mm stereo cable and a free recording program.

Purchase a 3.5mm stereo cable from an electronics store or online. The cable needs to be a foot long to avoid issues with interference between the iPhone and the computer during the recording process.

Download Audacity, a free audio recording program (see "Resources"). Then install it by double-clicking the executable file and then by clicking "Next" to begin the installation. Click "Finish" to complete the installation.

Plug one end of the 3.5mm into the iPhone's headphone jack and then plug the other into your computer sound card's input/microphone jack. Do not start the stream yet, however.

Open Audacity by going to "Start > Programs > Audacity." Click "File > Preferences" and set the input recording device to "Microphone" and the output sound device to your speakers. Click "OK" to accept the changes.

Click the "Record" button on Audacity and then start the stream on your iPhone by pushing the "Play" button. Blue sound waves will appear in Audacity, signifying that the recording has begun.

Click the red square "Stop" button in Audacity when you want to stop recording the stream. Then stop the stream on your iPhone by pushing the "Pause" button. Click "File > Save Project As" in Audacity to save the recorded audio.

Unplug your iPhone from your computer's microphone jack. Then click "File > Export to MP3" in Audacity to export your streamed music into a playable MP3 file. You have successfully recorded streaming music/audio from your iPhone to the PC.
