How to Hook Up a Sand Filter to a Pool
When operating your own pool, it's important to keep the pool running smoothly and the water clean. Using a sand filter is an effective way to keep your pool balanced and clear. Sand filters work by depth filtration. The dirt is driven through the sand bed and trapped in the minute spaces between the particles of sand. Place the pool filter on a level area of ground, no farther than 6 inches from the pool pump.

Connect the skimmer to the pool pump using a pool hose. Secure and tighten a hose clamp on each end of the hose.

Use another piece of pool hose to connect the return valve on the pool wall to the "return to pool" valve, which is usually at the top of the filter. You may want to check your owner's manual for the exact location. Once both ends of the pool hose are connected, secure and tighten a hose clamp on each end.

Connect the pool pump to the pool filter "pump in" valve, with the connector that came with the pool pump. If you do not have a pump that came with a connector, use a piece of pool hose. Tighten the connector. If you are using pool hose, secure and tighten two hose clamps on each end.

Plug in your filter and turn it on. Prime your filter and add the necessary sand in accordance to the size of your pool.
