Things You'll Need:
- Yoga mat
- Water bottle
- Towel
- Hair bands

Step 1
Find a Bikram yoga place near you. In order to be called a Bikram yoga studio, the instructors must be trained by Yogiraj Bikram Choudhury himself. See the Resources section below for a link to find a certified studio near you.
-
Step 2
Dress for success. Throw on your flip flops because when you get to the studio, there will be cubbies for you to leave them in. You enter the yoga room barefoot. The room will be extremely warm, so dress in the least amount of clothes that you feel comfortable wearing. Remember that you will be lifting your legs and bending over, so make sure that your clothes move with you and don't gap. Most pants designed specifically for yoga have double waist bands and fit snugly. The yoga place will probably sell clothing, but beware that it is usually pricey.
-
Step 3
Bring your materials. You will want to bring a sticky yoga mat and a long towel. You will be sweating; the towel will catch your body excretions and will add a little comfort when it is time to lay on the mat. You will do the second half of your exercises on your back, so make sure that you don't wear your hair in a ponytail. Two pigtails on the sides of your head works well to keep hair out of the way and comfortable. You will also want to bring a water bottle. Most instructors will give you a few water breaks during the series.
-
Step 4
Enjoy your class. Focus on yourself. There will be a mirror for you to watch your poses. Don't worry about the people around you. They may have been doing these poses for years. Do your personal best; don't compare yourself to others. If you feel faint, sit or lay down for a few minutes.
-
Step 5
Return. The beauty of Bikram yoga is that it is the same 26 poses repeatedly. You will be able to master each pose eventually. You will be proud of the progress you make when you continue your practice.
