Find Michigan Offenders online

If you have young children, you need to know if an offender lives nearby. Children love to play outside. They certainly need fresh air and exercise everyday. Can you trust your neighbors? Are your children safe playing outside alone while you cook supper? Talk to your children about stranger danger so they know what to do if a stranger approaches. Tell them what to do if someone tries to touch them. Check the Internet to identify Michigan offenders in your neighborhood.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Internet Access
  1. Step 1

Go to the Michigan.gov website. A link is provided in the Resource section of this article for OTIS (offender tracking information system) and MIPSOR (Michigan sex offender registry.)

  2. Step 2

Click on the “online services” link at the top of the website.

  3. Step 3

Choose to follow the OTIS link or the MISPOR link. OTIS has pictures and some charges against criminals supervised by the Michigan prison system MDOC. These may be felony or misdemeanor charges. MISPOR has the most recent addresses for Michigan sex offenders.

  4. Step 4

Type in a person's name. If you are looking for a specific person, type in the name. If you want to know if sex offenders are registered in your neighborhood, simply type in your zip code and hit the submit button.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check these offender websites often to protect your children.
  • Look up new neighbors before trusting your children in their home.
  • Any person released more than three years ago, may not be listed on OTIS. (this does not pertain to sex offenders)
  • Charges can be pressed against you for harrassing an individual that you locate on the state offender website.
  • Michigan does not warrant or guarantee any information on the website.
  • Potential criminals with pending charges will not be listed, only those convicted of crimes appear on the website.

on 11/7/2009 I think the police should put in everyone's mailbox when their is an offender in the neighbourhood. This just makes alot of sense to me. This can also prevent things from happening. Our law system is no good anymore anyway, when they protect the offenders and not the little victims is just plain crazy to me. Great article. 5*
