Things You'll Need:
- 2 ½ cup or 1 package of
- Crushed Vanilla Wafer Cookies
- 1 Can Sweetened Condescend Milk
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 Tablespoons Cocoa Powder
- 1 Cup Crushed pecans
- 2 Tsp Vanilla Extract
- ¼ to ½ cup Rum
-
Step 1
Crush 1 package Vanilla Wafer Cookies to a fine powder, a food processor works great for this if you do not have one, a rolling pin and a plastic bag work second best. If you have none of the above try a hammer and the plastic bag the wafer cookies come cover with a towel and start smashing.
-
Step 2
In a large mixing bowl add 1 ½ cup crushed wafers, 1 Can Sweetened Condescend Milk, 1 cup powdered sugar, 2 Tablespoons Cocoa Powder, 1 Cup Crushed pecans, 2 Tsp Vanilla Extract, ¼ cup Rum.
-
Step 3
Mix thoroughly you need the dough to be tacky and able to hold form. If they are not yet at that stage add more rum until the dough takes shape.
-
Step 4
A tablespoon or small scooper works great for measuring out globs of dough. You need to roll the dough in between your palms and form a ball. Then you will want to take the ball and roll it in powdered sugar. Set aside and continue process until you have completed all of the dough.
-
Step 5
Powder
If you want to be creative you do not need to limit yourself to simply powdered sugar to roll them in. You can combine in a bag 1 cup powdered sugar and 1 tablespoon cocoa powder for chocolate covered rum balls. Or you can roll them in crushed pecans or even crushed walnuts if you prefer. You can even use sprinkles, crushed chocolate cookies, or even if you want they can be left plain. -
Step 6
Rum
With so many wonderful flavored rums on the market today you can use any flavor or type of rum you like. I have used dark rum, spiced rum, vanilla rum and even coconut rum . Each flavor brings out a unique flavor and quality in this festive treat. But if you do not like rum you can substitute it with brandy or even whiskey. I have had brandy balls and because brandy is a sweeter liquor it works rather well. As for using whiskey I have only heard of people using it as an option, I have not tasted whiskey balls, but I am not a huge whiskey fan so. Have fun with the liquor selection for your holiday rum balls.
