Things You'll Need:
- Screen material
- Screen frame
- Screen frame corners
- Spline
- hacksaw
- Spline tool
- tape measure
-
Step 1
Measure the screen opening size. If you are replacing a damaged screen you can use that as a template.
-
Step 2
Cut the window screen frame material to size. Take your measurements and subtract the corner size. Each corner is usually 3/4 inch so you would have to subtract 1 1/2 inches. Mark this length on the frame material. Use a hacksaw to cut these marks.
-
Step 3
Install the corners in the top and bottom pieces. Install the side pieces and complete the frame. Place the screen frame into the window opening to make sure it will fit. If it is to big then more will need to be cut off. If it is a little to small then spread the corners a little.
-
Step 4
Place the screen frame on a hard flat surface. The spline groove needs to be facing up. Roll the screen material over the frame. Leave at least an extra inch on all sides.
-
Step 5
Push the spline into the frame. Start in a corner and work your way around. Be careful to keep the screen material tight as you push the spline into place. To push the spline into place you can use a screen spline tool or a butter knife. The spline tool has two wheels on it. Use the concaved side.
-
Step 6
Work the screen spline into the corners with a butter knife or a screwdriver. Be careful not to rip the screen during this step. Take your time doing this. Install the screen into the window.
