Congratulations, you're engaged! As you plan your reception, you will need to determine what songs and dances you will do for the special dances. The most important dances is your first dance as husband and wife. This will be a memorable moment for you and your guests, so don't leave the song choice to someone else.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

There are many lists of Wedding First Dance Songs on the web. One great list can be found in the Resources below. Take a look at the song suggestions and start to get a feel for what is popular for a wedding.

  2. Step 2

Listen to the songs. Make sure it has a melody and tempo that you like. Many songs have been recreated by multiple artists, so you may want to listen to several different versions of the same song.

  3. Step 3

Look at the lyrics and the meaning of the song. Does the song speak to your relationship? Does it have veiled sexual innuendos that you would rather not have during your first dance? What was the meaning or background of the song when it was written?

  4. Step 4

You may want to choose an instrumental version of the song, if the lyrics aren't exactly what you want. However, remember that your guests may know the words and be singing them along in their head while you are dancing.

  5. Step 5

If you have a DJ for your wedding, make sure they have the exact version of the song you want to use. As mentioned above, many artists cover songs, and you don't want to be surprised when you step out onto the dance floor to hear a different version.

  6. Step 6

If you have a band for your wedding, see if they know the song you want to use. If so, find out how they would sing and arrange it. If you don't like their version, consider using a CD for the particular arrangement that you like.

  7. Step 7

If the band doesn't know the song you want, but are willing to learn it, provide sheet music for the song. Do this well in advance of the reception so they have time to learn it and you have time to hear it before the big day. After you hear them perform the song, decide if you still want them to sing it.

  8. Step 8

Practice your dance with the song before the big day. This will ease your nerves.

  9. Step 9

Have a great time at your wedding reception! Lose yourself in your loved one's arms and enjoy this most special dance.
