Things You'll Need:
- Adobe Dreamweaver CS3
-
Step 1
Creating a new siteOpen Dreamweaver. To begin building your site, you'll need to create a new one as shown in the following picture.
-
Step 2
Local Info Tab in Dreamweaver.Go to the Local Info Tab as shown in the below picture. Enter your site name, tell it which local folder you want to create to hold this site and its images on your computer, and enter the entire web address that you should have been given by your webhosting company. You can also tell Dreamweaver to make all your links relative to your document or the site root. If relative to the document, it would look like this: images/image.jpg. If relative to the site root, it would look like this: html/images/image.jpg. I prefer it relative to my document because it makes previewing my page locally easier, but you can do it whichever way you feel comfortable.
-
Step 3
Remote Info Tab in DreamweaverNext go to the Remote Info Tab. If you FTP into your webhosting company's server, then you want to select FTP as the Access Method. You'll need to add your FTP host, which is usually ftp.yoursite.com (Fill in your site info there). You want to input the username and password that you use to access your webhosting company's server, and you'll also want to check use passive ftp. Then click OK.
-
Step 4
Manage Site in DreamweaverNow you can go back in and manage your site if you need to. Go to the site tab at the top of your program and click on manage site in the dropdown as shown in the following picture.
-
Step 5
Choose your site in DreamweaverYour site that you are going to create should now be available to select. To make changes to any of the information, you would just double click on your site, and when you are done making modifications, you just select Done.
-
Step 6
Open your site in DreamweaverTo open your site now, you can click on the arrow on the right.
-
Step 7
Opening your site locally in Dreamweaver. This will open the sidebar that allows you to choose your site. You will be in local view. Which means that it is opening your site in the local folder that you have on your computer rather than your site from the remote server with your webhosting company.
-
Step 8
Now you can begin to make your webpages and save them to your local server. You can also save them to your remote server by going to file/save to remote server. Dreamweaver will automatically connect to your webhosting company's server using the information that you put into dreamweaver when you created your site to manage. You then go to your www folder and save your webpage.
