How to cope with the pain inflicted by living with a dysfunctional family.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Surviving the pain inflicted when living with a dysfunctional family can be hard to overcome, but not impossible. It is important to recognize the situation and take action as soon as possible. There are several things you can do in order to help yourself in coping with the pain and unrest.

  2. Step 2

First, it is important for the abused to seek help in the form of counseling. In addition, it would be healthier if you spend as much time away from the home as possible. Surround yourself with healthy relationships such as friends, and other family members not residing in the same home.

  3. Step 3

Basically, you must try to mentally disconnect yourself from the whole situation. The more you distance yourself the better off you will be. You should pray daily and ask God for guidance and strength

  4. Step 4

Finally, you need to eventually move out. It is hard when you are young and still in school due to the fact that you may not be of age to go out on your own. However, as soon as the opportunity presents itself you need to go out on your own. Removing yourself from all the negativity and abuse will change your life dramatically.
