How to Fix E74 on the Xbox 360
Microsoft's Xbox 360 is a powerful video game console that allows multiple players to experience games via both controller and online interfaces. Many errors with the console are given specific designations to assist with troubleshooting of the console. Some can be solved by users with a minimum of technical expertise. Error E74 is given as a general error that indicates that the video output of the console is not functioning correctly. This may be resolved by users if the problem is not related to the console hardware itself.

1
Remove any games and unplug the Xbox 360. This is necessary to protect gaming disks and prevent damage to electronic components.
-
2
Unplug the video and audio A/V cables from both the console and the television. Pull them out at the plug itself to prevent potential damage to the cables.
-
-
3
Inspect the cables for wear or damage. Frayed cables or bent connectors should be replaced immediately.
-
4
Spray the ends of the cables with compressed air at full force to dislodge any dust or debris that may have interfered with transmission.
-
5
Clean the inside of the jacks on both the console and television with short bursts from the can. Do not use straws or other aids to reach into these jacks as this can damage them.
-
6
Reconnect the A/V cables and power supply and power on the devices. This should resolve the problem if it is not related to the console's hardware.

Tips & Warnings
Microsoft has extended the console's warranty to include hardware repairs for E74 errors. If these steps do not help, contact Microsoft Support for instructions on sending your console for repair.
Spraying concentrated condensed air directly into jacks, drives or onto CDs can damage them. Only use the spray at surface level and in short bursts.
