How to plans for Building a Shelf
One of the biggest issues in any home is storage space. As you accumulate more items, it is possible to run out of room to put things. One of the easiest ways to get more space is to build shelves. Shelves allow you to store more items in a single space and can fit in any small space. Building shelves in your home is very easy and you can do it yourself. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 2 pieces of 2-inch-by-12-inch boards which are 3 feet long
- 2 pieces of 2-inch-by-12-inch boards which are 3 feet, 9 inches long
- 3 pieces of 2-inch-by-12-inch boards which are 2 feet, 9 inches long
- Wood screws
- Drill with a screwdriver bit
- Tape measure
- Pencil

Place the two pieces of 3-foot 9-inch boards at 90 degree angles on either end of one of your 3-foot boards. Screw into place at each corner and the center of the board.

Measure three heights for your shelves and mark them using the pencil. Make a note about what you are going to be storing and make sure your shelves are high enough to accommodate the items.

Screw the shelves in between the sides at your marks, using three screws per side.

Place the last piece of 2-by-12 board on top of your shelving unit. Screw into place with screws at the corners and one in the center.

Tips & Warnings
This will make a shelving unit 3 feet long, 4 feet high and 11 1/2 inches deep. If you need the shelves to be longer or shorter, adjust your measurements.
Get strong enough wood to hold all of your items. The 2-inch-by-12-inch board is extremely sturdy and is good to hold heavier items.
