An example of how to protect your floor with a painter's drop cloth.

Protect other furniture or personal items in your home that may get in the way of splattered paint. Laying a painter's drop cloth down onto the floor, or draping it over other furniture that's close by, will help to protect your floor and other furniture and items in your home. This may help to reduce your cleanup time later.

Thoroughly wash down your kitchen cabinets with a damp rag, making sure they are completely clean and ready to be painted.

Hardware accents any kitchen cabinet style in your home.

Remove all of your hardware on your cabinets. This is so you won't get paint on them. Possibly you may want to replace them altogether.

    • 4

Use your painter's tape and tape off any areas and or furniture that you don't want to get any paint on. It's easy to apply and doesn't take off any paint when it's removed.

Thoroughly mix your can of Pratt & Lambert primer. This can be done at the store, prior to your purchase (only if your intent is to paint your cabinets immediately after bringing your paint home), or you can stir the primer yourself before beginning your project. When purchasing your primer and paint, you should have received an instrument to stir the primer and paint.

Open the primer (usually on top of laid-out newspaper), and throughly stir it about two to three minutes. After doing this, your primer is ready to apply to your kitchen cabinets. When applying your primer, use long even strokes with your 3-inch brush, and allow to dry about an hour prior to applying your paint color.

A new coat of paint adds to the style of the kitchen.

Apply your Pratt & Lambert Accolade paint to your kitchen cabinets. Once again, mix the paint thoroughly. Apply the paint in the same direction, and in long even strokes with your 3-inch brush. Pratt & Lambert Accolade paint goes on very smooth because it has an excellent flow to it and is unsurpassed in durability. Rinse the brush out in warm soapy water in the bucket. After the cabinets are painted, allow a few hours for the paint to dry before installing the hardware.
