Sachets are small fabric bags or pillows stuffed with herbs and essential oil. Use sachets to freshen clothes drawers and closets. Place them wherever you want a light scent. You can easily make your own sachets using dried herbs. Homemade sachets are a creative gift idea and a fun project to do with children. Try making lemon verbena sachets for a fresh, citrus smell.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Dry your lemon verbena. Cut stems of lemon verbena and lay them out on baking sheets lined with parchment paper. Dry them in an oven at about 200 or 300 degrees F for several hours.

  2. Step 2

Place the dried verbena into a bowl and use your fingers to crumble it into small pieces.

  3. Step 3

Add 1 tbsp. of orris root powder for each cup of dried herbs and mix together.

  4. Step 4

Place 2 tbsp. of the lemon verbena and orris root mixture into the center of a 6-inch piece of fabric.

  5. Step 5

Pull up the corners of the fabric and tie a small piece of ribbon around it to hold the fabric closed.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can also place the dried lemon verbena into small muslin or organza drawstring bags to make sachets. To vary the scent, add other herbs or a few drops of essential oils to the mix.
  • Make sure the herbs are completely dried before adding them to the sachets.
