How to Create & Draw Your Own Home Plans & Blueprints
Anyone who has thought of creating their own custom home knows how costly an endeavor it can be. Architectural fees can add up, so many people consider creating and drawing their own blueprints. Luckily, there are computer programs that will allow you to design your own custom home, which will ensure that you will save time and money on your final costs. Does this Spark an idea?

Install the program and start a new design file. Once you purchase an architectural software program, such as 3D Home Architect, you can begin installing it onto your computer. You can purchase the 3D Home Architect program, or other architectural programs, from any computer software store. Inside the software box, there will be detailed installation instructions involving placing the disc into the disc drive, and following the prompts that will appear on the monitor. Once installed, open the program and click on the word "File" at the top of the screen. Select "New" from the list that appears and a new design image will be ready for customization.

Create the walls. Click on the picture of a wall section, which is located at the top of the screen. Then click inside the design image and drag the wall. The dimensions of the wall will appear as you draw, allowing you to gauge the exact proportions of the building. Once you create the outside walls, add interior walls to separate individual rooms, closets and hallways.

Create the windows and doors. To add doors, click on the picture of a door at the top of the screen. A separate window will appear displaying all of the door options. Click on the door you want to add and click inside your design to insert the door you chose. You can add windows by clicking on the picture of a window at the top of the screen, which will cause a pop-up window to appear with window choices. Click the window you want and click on the walls of your design to insert the windows.

Include electrical and utilities. You can add electrical outlets and utilities to your home design by clicking on the respective pictures at the top of the screen, then selecting the type of outlet and appliance from the choices available. Be sure to include plumbing, electrical outlets for the kitchen and bathrooms, and a water heater.

Save the file to your computer. Once your blueprints are completed, you can save your design file by clicking on the word "File" and then selecting "Save As" from the drop-down list. A window will appear asking you to type in a file name. Name the file anything you want, then click on the "OK" button. your design will now be ready to print out and taken to an architect or a building inspector for approval.
