This is the real thing, the very same doughboys you get at the fairs in summertime. And just as tasty, I would not place this under healthy foods, for sure, this is food to be enjoyed. This article will show you how to make homemade doughboys just like the one's you find at the fairgrounds in summertime.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • frozen bread dough
  • large pot or french fry cooker
  • oil
  • toppings
  1. Step 1

Heat oil in pan just as if you were going to make French fries, or heat your French fry maker as if making French fries.

  2. Step 2

As your oil is heating, take one frozen bread dough from the package, and dethaw in the microwave on a low setting, you want the dough to dethaw, not cook. Keep checking the dough, kneading it by hand, and dethawing it until dethawed and you are able to break small pieces off and stretch them.

  3. Step 3

Break off small pieces, a little smaller then a table tennis ball, and stretch it out. Don't worry if a hole tears in the dough, the main thing is to try and make the dough thinner. I do these one at a time, until I have two toi three in the oil. And it is not important to try and get all of them into the oil at the same time

  4. Step 4

Carefully place the pieces, one at a time into the hot oil, and cook until golden brown. I turn them over as soon as one side is light brown. If it appears they are cooking too quickly, just turn down the heat a tad.

  5. Step 5

Remove with a long handled slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. This is another one of those foods that don't stay around long, but if you are lucky enough to have some left over, just heat them up in the microwave later on and they are good to go.

  6. Step 6

The final step is the toppings. I love them with maple pancake syrup over them, or pizza sauce with shredded cheese and crumbled hamburg, just like a pizza. One of my kids enjoys them with just butter.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you like fairground food, this is it.
  • Be very careful placing them into the hot oil and removing them from the hot oil.
