Step 1
The first step is to figure out what your carbon footprint is. You can do that by visiting the carbon footprint calculator at the link below. The average and ideal for the country is 20 tonnes.
-
Step 2
One small step that can make a big difference is to change out your regular light bulbs to energy saving light bulbs. They cost a little more but they last a REALLY long time
-
Step 3
Next is a really big step. Change out all of your old appliance with new energy star appliances. It can be a very costly step, however, these appliances use less energy and can save you money on your bills. They pay themselves off within a short period of time
-
Step 4
Of course, Of course, I know you have been waiting for this one. RECYCLE!!! Click on the link in the resources section below to find out how to start a recycling program in your home.
-
Step 5
One more step that is VERY important is to switch over your home from the toxic products to safe, healthy, natural products. You can find everything from cleaning supplies for the entire house to health and beauty items. And trust me you CAN get eco friendly products that work well, and actually better than the toxic ones! What is great about these if you find the right source you can get them for less than what you would be paying at the grocery store or walmart.
