Things You'll Need:
- Interior Designer (to draft, design, layout, measure, and create a functional and practical space.)
- Contractor/Carpenter
- Building Materials
- Correct Mattress Sizes
-
Step 1
Measure the space you are considering having built-in bunk beds installed. Layout the space in a floor plan to make sure a twin size bed plus framing will fit into the space. Working with someone to provide a floor plan, an elevation plan, including details for storage space, lighting, a ladder, and ceiling height should all be considered.
-
Step 2
Seek bids for construction and material costs. Interview contractors who can build bunk beds that are stable and safely constructed. If you are a DIY sort of project be sure to measure accurately and use strong materials.
-
Step 3
Consider options or themes in design (as some of the images included her demonstrate). Incorporating storage below the first bunk bed is ideal, privacy curtains for multiple bunks allow for one to person to block out light or sleep with the feeling of privacy, adding electrical/lighting such as sconces in the individual bunk is an asset.
