These are some ideas for decorating for a Halloween party.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Carve a jack-o-lantern, or several.
Put candles, or led lights into the carved pumpkins and place them by the front door, or in the front window.

  2. Step 2

Use the colors orange and black.

  3. Step 3

    Use lighting
Everything's spookier in the dark. Strobe lights aren't that expensive, and are good for surprising people. You can also use a projector to project ghosts.

  4. Step 4

    Hang spiderwebs with spiders.
You can buy bags of stuff that stretches out to look like cob webs. You can stick plastic bugs in it, or make your own bugs out of black pipe cleaner.

  5. Step 5

Use some fake bats, or rats.
It's even better if you rig them to drop on people unexpectedly.

  6. Step 6

Make styrofoam tomb stones for the front lawn.

  7. Step 7

    Use skeletons.
Bones are creepy, especially when they move unexpectedly. So are coffins, especially coffins with occupants that sit up unexpectedly.

  8. Step 8

    Make a ghost.
This can be a piece of shredded cheesecloth or for a cuter effect make little ghosts out of Kleenex and hang them up.

  9. Step 9

Use a witch's cauldron for the punch bowl.

  10. Step 10

Set up an apple bobbing basin.
A galvanized tub or sawn off barrel is traditional, but any low water proof container will work. Fill it with water, then when you're ready for the contest, float apples in it. The first person to pick up an apple with their mouth wins.

  11. Step 11

Put up a cutout of a black cat.
They are bad luck when they cross your path.
