How to Make Koolaide Playdough
Kool-Aid powder, though normally used to make drinks, can be used for a number of different craft projects. The powder is richly colored and works well as a coloring agent. By mixing different flavors of Kool-Aid powder into your homemade play dough mixture, you can give your play dough a variety of bright colors.
Things You'll Need
- 1 packet unsweetened Kool-Aid powder
- 1 c. flour
- 1/2 c. salt
- 1 tbsp. cooking oil
- 2 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1 c. water

1
Measure all the dry ingredients into a mixing bowl. Add the Kool-Aid powder last. (Do not add the sugar directed by the packet.)
-
2
Stir the dry ingredients together with a fork until the Kool-Aid powder is fully mixed in with the other ingredients, leaving no white or marbled areas.
-
-
3
Heat the water to boiling on the stove over medium heat. Add the oil.
-
4
Sprinkle the dry ingredients into the water a little at a time. Whisk as you go with a fork at first to avoid letting lumps form. As the mixture thickens, use a large wooden to stir, but press out any additional lumps that form with the fork.
-
5
Stir the mixture until it is smooth and consistent.
-
6
Remove the mixture from the stove top and refrigerate it. The dough will be ready to use when it is cool enough to handle. When not in use, store in a resealable plastic container; you will not need to refrigerate. If it becomes dry, refresh by kneading a few drops of water into the dough.
