Saving money for a vacation is an exciting yet challenging thing. Most likely you will look for great hotels and activities, and try to set a budget that will fit your pocketbook and your family. However, anyone who has tried to save for a vacation knows that vacation airfare and accommodations are usually your most expensive costs. Here are some tips on saving money for vacation airfare and accommodations.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Plan ahead. As you and your family decide on where you want to go for your vacation you will need to make a list. Will you be happy with a cheaper hotel, or will you want a five star suite? In order to save for your vacation you will need to know how much it is going to cost and what you are willing to live with.

  2. Step 2

Set a monthly goal. If you want to take your vacation in July and it is January, you will have six or seven months to reach your goal. During each month until you take your vacation, aim to save a specified amount of money for the trip.

  3. Step 3

Make it fun. If you want to involve your children, decide how you are going to save for your monthly vacation goal. Perhaps one month you can have a garage sale. Go through your closets to find things to sell at your vacation garage sale. Another idea might be to have a purchase free month. During that month put off all unnecessary purchases to save for your goal. Whatever you do to save money, if you do it as a family it will be a lot more fun.
