Dispose of cooking oil the right way using paper from a paper shredder machine. The paper shreds soak up the oil and allow for a convenient disposal of the oil without having to pour oil down the drain.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paper shreds from a paper shredder.
  1. Step 1

Allow the oil to cool completely. (Do not handle hot or warm oil as it can cause severe burns).

  2. Step 2

Using paper shreds from a paper shredder, drop paper shreds into the pot containing the oil. Allow several hours (2-3 hours) for paper to soak up the oil.

  3. Step 3

Check oil after 2-3 hours to ensure all the oil has been soaked up. Add more paper shreds if necessary to soak up more oil.

  4. Step 4

After all oil is soaked up by the paper, discard paper shreds into a sealable plastic garbage bag or any type of container that will resist environmental decomposition (use plastic when available).

  5. Step 5

Dispose of the garbage bag in the trash. Clean up pot

  6. Step 6

If there is any oil residue remaining in the pot, simply wipe it up with a paper towel and dispose of the towel in a garbage bag as well.
