This article is about interpreting the fifth card of the major arcana of the tarot, the number four, the Emperor.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Your imagination
  • Rider Waite Deck
  • A notebook
  1. Step 1

    Pull the card out of the deck and look at it. Take a deep breath and meditate on the image. Use your imagination and think about who this person is and what he has to offer you. What do you see? Write the images that catch your eye in your notebook.

  2. Step 2

    The Emperor represents your physical father or a father figure. He an authoritative person with the ability to make the right decisions. He has gained his knowledge through experience and he will give you solid advice. He had a grounding effect and is a stable influence. He has experienced life and is skeptical. You can not just talk, you have to show him. If you listen to his advice you can avoid mistakes.

  3. Step 3

    Look at his Beard. This shows indicates that he is an older man with experience and authority. He has seen the effect of his own actions and therefore can offer solid life advice.

  4. Step 4

    Look at the Ram. This is a symbol of determination, action, initiative, and leadership. The ram is the astrological sign of Aries, which is the ruler of the Emperor.

  5. Step 5

    Look at the watch. This is a symbol of time. All things come in God time. This man hold time in his hands.

  6. Step 6

    This card in interpreted in two ways. First, remember that the Emperor represents the person father. Look at the cards around for more detail about circumstances around that person. This card also can indicate a boss at work; basically any man in a position of authority. This card could mean a power struggle at work, or an offer of a higher position on the job front.
    Second, when you see this card in a reading, you know that the querent is dealing with issue of power and ambition. The Emperor rules desire to get ahead. Advise him that a mentor is available if he/she chooses to take on the role of apprentice.
