How to Install or Update Free Adobe Reader

If you have trouble viewing documents online your computer may not have Adobe Reader, or your Adobe may simply be an out of date version. Learn how to install Adobe Reader online or update Adobe to a newer version.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• computer
• internet access

1. Open your internet browser and open the following website: http://www.adobe.com/

2. With your mouse click on the box labeled: Get Adobe Reader. Other Adobe programs can also be downloaded but may not be free. Adobe Reader is free.

3. Click on the box labeled: Download. ***If Adobe does not automatically start downloading, look for a gold bar at the top of the page labeled: This website wants to install the following add-on. Click this box. Click install Active X***

4. When the Install box pops up, click: Install. When the File Download box pops up, click: Run. If an Internet Explorer Security box pops up, click: Run.

5. Click the Finish button in the final pop-up box. After the installation is finalized simply restart your computer.

Tips & Warnings

• If you have a previous version of Adobe, a pop-up will ask you to repair or remove older version. Click Repair to save time. If Adobe still does not work after installation. Repeat process but Remove old version of Adobe instead of Repairing.
• If any additional pop-up boxes appear at any point during this process. Click Ok, Run, Download, or Install as needed.
• Adobe Reader needs to be updated periodically. After the initial installation, Adobe will give a reminder to update to the newest version. Always update Adobe when asked or documents may no longer be viewable.
