Step 1
Choose the type of material you would like your chemo wig to be made from. Wigs come in both natural and synthetic varieties. There are pros and cons to both types. Natural is more expensive while synthetic is more reasonably priced. Styling can be easier with synthetic, but natural is real hair and for some there is no substitute. Check with your insurance carrier to see if the cost of a hairpiece is covered while going through chemotherapy.

Step 2
Have you always wondered if blonds really do have more fun? Now is your chance to find out! Choosing a hair color for your chemo wig is the next step in your journey. Wigs come in all shades, so if you have always wanted to try a new color you can try it out with your new hairpiece. If you would like to keep it as close to your natural color as possible, stylists recommend cutting a lock toward the front of your head before chemotherapy treatments begin for better color matching.

Step 3
Former chemotherapy patients agree, shorter styles are a better choice for wigs during treatment. The ease of care and simple styling needs for shorter hair make all the difference when you are working with your wig. Chemo treatments may leave you with less energy than you are used to, so why spend time fussing with a hairpiece? If you normally wear your locks long stylists suggest cutting it short before treatment starts to make the transition easier.

Step 4
Comfort is a must. Try on a number of wigs to make sure that the style you like is comfortable on your head. If you love one wig, but it keeps sliding off or just does not feel right, then it is probably not the best choice as you are going through chemotherapy. The hairpiece you choose must fit you perfectly and fill you with self-confidence. Chemo make take your hair, but you do not have to let it take your spirit.
