How to Find the ID of a DS Game

The Nintendo DS is a handheld video game system launched by Nintendo in 2004. Each Nintendo DS game is identified by a unique code. This code can be used with the Action Replay, a third-party device that allows you to enable cheat codes in games. If you want to add new codes to your Action Replay, you must have the correct game ID or the codes won't work.

Instructions

    • 1

Examine the game cartridge. The identification code is printed on the back in black ink beneath the Nintendo logo. If it has smeared or is otherwise unreadable, continue to Step 2.

    • 2

Insert the Action Replay DS into your DS and turn it on. When it loads to the home screen, remove it, leaving the system powered on. You will be prompted to insert a game cartridge.

    • 3

Insert your game cartridge into the DS. The screen will change to display the words "Unknown Game" in a green bar beneath the Action Replay DS logo. The game's identification number will be located below that green bar.

Tips & Warnings

  • The Action Replay DS must be running firmware version 1.52 or above to display the game ID. If it is running an older version, follow the instructions in your user manual to update the firmware.
