How to Landscape With Pine Straw
Landscaping with pine straw is both economical and safer for your yard than traditional mulches. Pine straw is lightweight and inexpensive, especially if you have pine trees in your yard. It is safer for your soil because it allows the ground to breathe better than traditional mulches. If you don't have pine trees in your yard, pine straw is available at your local nursery or home improvement center. You can easily place pine straw around trees, as part of your flower beds and around lawn ornaments. Does this Spark an idea?

Place some rocks first, then some pine straw in an area of your yard that is prone to water standing, like under a water sprout or low level area in your yard. Pine straw is excellent for erosion control.

3
Rake any areas in your yard where the grass won't grow or an area where the ground has been damaged to remove any debris. Then with lawn edging, form a square, rectangle or other shaped design and place some pine straw in the edged design. Finish the landscaping with some ornaments that complement your yard.

4
Scatter some pine straw in between different flower types in your flowerbed. The pine straw will add organic material and nutrients to the soil under your plants and it will help keep to the weeds down in your flowerbed.
-
5
Place some lawn edging around a patio or deck area about a foot out and then place some pine straw next to it to add some color to your patio or deck area.
-
6
Place some pine straw around any areas where gravel or concrete is used to hold up a object like a mailbox or flag pole in your yard. You may want to use lawn edging or medium-sized rocks as a way to keep the pine straw contained.

Tips & Warnings
If you don't have any pine trees in your yard, buy the material in bale form. It is quicker to unroll, especially for large areas you are trying to mulch or cover.
