How to Create Your Own Printable Labels

Whether you run your own business or you want to make labels for your own personal use, having the right software can make printing your own labels a breeze. For this exercise we are going to use the free Avery DesignPro software. This software is very easy to use and you can make just about any type of label you want. In addition, you can make other things like greeting, business cards and more.

      Open up the Avery software. Click on the "Create a Project from Scratch" link.

      The next page shows every kind of label that you could make. Pick the one size that you are going to be using and click "OK."

      You will then see the blank label you have chosen. Click on the "Insert" tab, and then click on either "Text" or "Round Text." A box will appear on your label which you can widen to make your text fit. If you choose "Round Text," everything you type will be rounded either in a half circle or a whole circle. Type your text in the box you have chosen.

      If you want to insert a graphic, you can choose one that you already have or you can choose one from the clip art gallery that comes with the software. In order to insert the graphic, click on the "Insert" tab and choose which image type you want. Once you have chosen the type of graphic, it will automatically appear on the label. Using your mouse, move the image to the location where you want it. You can also resize the image by clicking on the outer lines of the image box and moving the lines in or out, depending on how big or small you want the graphic to be.

      To make different labels on that same size label, click on the yellow tab at the bottom of the page that says "Label 1." You can follow the steps above to make a different label. If you want another different label, click on "Label" near the top of the page, and then choose "New Label." You will now see it as "Label 3" on the bottom of your page. You can change the name of your label by clicking on the yellow tab and changing the wording.

      You can now print as may labels as you need. Click the "File" tab and choose "Print." On the next screen it will show various different ways to print. If you want to print all of the labels you just created, choose "All Designed Labels" under the "Selection" section. Under the "Number of Copies" section, choose "Labels" and type in how many labels you want printed in the "Copies" box. If you want a whole sheet, choose "Sheets" and in the "Copies" box enter "1" for an entire sheet. If you only want to print the first label that you made, under the "Selection" section choose "Master Label Only" choose how many labels you want.

      Insert your labels into your printer and click "OK" to print.
