Want a great way to frost your cake and also cut back on calories? Skip the frosting and frost the cake with applesauce! Not only will it cut calories but it will make the cake super moist and ultra delicious!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

BAKE OR BUY THE CAKE -- You can bake your cake or buy a pound cake or any other unfrosted cake. You can also use cupcakes if you prefer.

  2. Step 2

BUY APPLESAUCE -- You can buy any type of applesauce you want. You can buy plain or you can buy the fruit flavored applesauce on the market. Any applesauce will do!

  3. Step 3

FROST THE LAYERS -- Cut the cake in half just as you would if you were going to make a layered cake with frosting. But instead of using frosting, you are going to put applesauce between the layers. If you are using cupcakes, cut a core out of the top of the cupcake. Spoon in a bit of applesauce in the hole then put the top back on.

  4. Step 4

FROST THE TOP -- After your layers are frosted and assembled you are going to frost the top of the cake with applesauce. Just spread apple sauce on the top and you can let some run down the sides if you want. Then finish off the top of the cake (or the top of the cupcakes) by sprinkling some confectioner's sugar on the top. Then serve! Store any remaining cake in the refrigerator.
