Things You'll Need:
- Black craft paper - enough to cover your living room window
- Colored tissue paper, such as orange, yellow or red
- tape
- scissors
- pencil for tracing
-
Step 1
Get a rough measurement of your living room window.
-
Step 2
Purchase black craft paper from a craft store, or a teacher’s educational supply may have more competitive prices. You will need enough black paper to cover your window from top to bottom.
-
Step 3
You will need some thin colored tissue paper. You can also get this at the craft store and teacher supply store. It is best to use all one color – either orange or yellow. But, it may be cheaper to use a variety pack of tissue paper. In that case, use orange, yellow and red tissue paper.
-
Step 4
Decide what kind of Halloween pattern you want to use. The easiest one to make is the jack o lantern. Let your kids trace out the eyes, nose and mouth, either by looking at a picture or by free hand drawing these on the black craft paper.
-
Step 5
Hold up the black craft paper with the drawn outline up to your window. Make any changes needed on the outline.
-
Step 6
Cut out the eyes, nose and mouth, following the pattern of the outline.
-
Step 7
Once you have cut out the eyes, nose and mouth, use square pieces of the tissue paper to cover these areas. Tape works great. Make sure that the tissue lays flat on the black craft paper.
-
Step 8
Hang the black craft paper on the window. Again, tape works well for this, but you can also use tacky adhesive from a craft store.
-
Step 9
Turn on the lights in the living room.
-
Step 10
Go outside and check the view. The light should glow through the colored tissue paper and create a glowing pumpkin in your window.
