This is a great tool for educators and parents, and for teenagers themselves who are interested in starting up a book club. A book club is a fantastic way to experience new books and see them from many different points of view. Starting a book club for teenagers is not a difficult task, and is sure to be quite rewarding.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Gather a group of teens together that love to read. This can be done by distributing flyers, word of mouth or announcements made at school. A book club should be small and intimate, generally 5-10 people work best.

  2. Step 2

Choose a location to hold the meetings. Is there space at a local library? School? Another option is to have each teen take turns hosting the book club meetings at their homes, with parent permission of course.

  3. Step 3

Set a schedule for meetings. Will it be monthly? Bi-weekly? You'll want to give enough time for everyone to read the book, but too much time will cause you to lose people's interest.

  4. Step 4

Determine how books will be chosen. Everyone taking turns at choosing a book works and is a great way to get a variety of different books read. Each person hosting or choosing the book should also be responsible for writing up book club discussion questions or topics.

  5. Step 5

Try to obtain guest appearances occasionally. Try contacting authors or educators who can visit the meeting and offer up a new perspective.
