Step one couldn't be any easier and you probably wished there wasn't even a step one. Step one in removing tree sap is that you need to have some tree sap to remove. This seems kind of silly to say but it should be noted that it's always easier to avoid getting into tree sap and it is to remove it.

If you aren't quite so lucky and you have something that you need to remove tree sap from, go to the cupboard and get out some cooking oil. You don't need to be picky here. Vegetable oil, butter, margerine, olive oil, etc will all work.

Now simply rub the sap covered area with the oil. The oil will magically dissolve the sap. We once had a huge horse that rubbed on a tree and got himself covered in pine tar. It took a half of a tub of margerine but the sap came out without any trouble.

The last step is to wash the area with some kind of dish washing soap that will get rid of the oily residue. I like to use dawn.

Tips & Warnings
If you have a lot of pitch to get out, it's going to be messy so be prepared and either do it outside or in the tub.
Working with all this oil can make the floor slippery. Be careful not to slip and crack your mellon open.
