Things You'll Need:
- 1/2 cup ground cinnamon
- 1/3 cup applesauce
- 1 Tablespoon Elmer’s glue
- Mixing bowl
- Rolling pin
- Drinking straw
- Ribbon or decorative cord
-
Step 1
Mix 1 /2 cup ground cinnamon, 1/3 cup applesauce, and 1 Tablespoon Elmer’s glue together in a bowl. (You may also wish to try adding some ground cloves, nutmeg, or allspice to the cinnamon as a variation of this recipe.)
-
Step 2
Knead the mixture for a few minutes, adding more applesauce if it is too dry, or adding more cinnamon if it’s too wet.
-
Step 3
Now, place the mixture on a flat surface sprinkled with cinnamon and knead until it holds together well.
-
Step 4
Roll out the cinnamon “dough” with a rolling pin. Use cookie cutters to cut out your shapes.
Place these shapes on a wax paper covered cookie sheet. Use a drinking straw to cut out the hanging hole. -
Step 5
Let your ornaments air dry for a few days, turning them occasionally to allow them to dry evenly on both sides. (You may also dry the ornaments in a dehydrator. Your whole house will smell wonderful if you dry them this way!)
-
Step 6
Once dried, attach a string, or decorative cord through the hanging hole. Tie off the ends and your ornament is ready to hang. This ornament may also be hung in your closet as a sachet, making your clothes smell good!

on 11/29/2009 I LOVE cinnamon ornaments. I'm thinking of doing this with my preschool class. How many ornaments do you think one batch makes if you used an average sized cookie cutter?

on 10/11/2009 This is a great idea to make cinnamon ornaments that make the house smell good. I have done this and it really is nice (just avoid the temptation to eat it)
