Things You'll Need:
- Dog Treats, Patients, a Clicker,
-
Step 1
1. I am going to use the example of how to teach your dog to sit. If you are able to use a "clicker" this works great. When your dog does the behavior that you want them to do them click the clicker to "mark" that behavior. That will eventually tell the dog that is good, that is what my leader wants me to do. And as soon your dog does the behavior you want them to do give them a reward. A usually good reward is a treat. However, some dogs really like attention or toys instead of a treat.

Step 2
2. It's also important to tell your dog un-huh, or some other form of the word no to express to them they are not doing the behavior that your are requesting. Don't use the word no because it is a word that they hear often.

Step 3
3. Okay now let the work begin. With a treat as a lure tell your dog to sit and when your dog finally does sit, then mark the good behavior and reward with a treat. Keep practicing until your dog as mastered the command. Practice makes perfect. Use lots of repeition and be patient.

Step 4
4. Make sure to use a really good smelling treat as a reward. This helps as it is a more desirable reward. Try practicing in small sessions such as 3 times a day for five minutes at a time. Good luck.
