Things You'll Need:
- Plain headband (about an inch wide is best)
- 1 coat hanger
- Wire cutters
- Needle and thread
- Glue
- 2-4 sheets of white felt (or another color of your choice)
- Several yards of matching ribbon
- 1-2 sheets of pink felt
-
Step 1
Using wire or bolt cutters, cut off the twister hook end of a coat hanger. Then cut the coat hanger in half across from where the hook was. You should now have two pieces of bent wire. You can adjust the bend to the shape you want for the ears.
-
Step 2
Place two sheets of white felt on top of each other and use a marker to trace around the bent wire. Cut out this shape so that you now have two pieces of felt in the shape of the ears. Repeat with other "ear" wire so that you end up with two pairs of felt pieces.
-
Step 3
Cut out a pink shape for each ear, about an inch smaller than the surrounding shape. You will only need one for each ear.
-
Step 4
Take the two pieces of white felt (one ear), leaving the markered edges out. Sew the edges together by pulling the needle through in one direction, looping around the edge, and pulling it back through in the same direction. Sew all around the edges, leaving the flat part at the bottom open. Repeat with other "ear."
-
Step 5
You should now have two pockets of white felt. Turn these inside out so that the stitching is now on the inside. Glue the pink pieces to the front of each ear pocket.
-
Step 6
Slide the bent wire into each ear pocket so that the wire hold the ears in shape. Stitch the wire to the inside of the pockets by making one stick on the pointed end, and one or two on each side.
-
Step 7
Trim the excess wire sticking out of each pocket so that there is half an inch sticking out of each end. Bend these ends to 90 degree angles opposite each other, so that one end is bent towards you, and the other is bent away from you.
-
Step 8
Place the wire ends flat on top of the headband. Wrap the ribbon around the wire in an X pattern until it is secure. Then tie off the ends of the ribbon and you are all done!*
