Step 1
Firstly choose the type of rabbit you want as your new pet. Rabbits come in many shapes and sizes and it’s important that your rabbit hutch suits your breed of rabbit. Ask your breeder about the maximum size your rabbit could grow to, to help you decide on the size of the rabbit hutch - see in step 3
-
Step 2
Next you’ll need to decide where to keep your pet rabbit. Most commonly rabbits are kept in an outside rabbit hutch and usually have a rabbit pen or run. Alternatively they are kept inside the home in a rabbit cage and should have access to an indoor exercise area.

Step 3
The next thing to do is decide what size of rabbit hutch would most suit your breed of rabbit. The shortest the length that a rabbit hutch should be is 4ft for a dwarf rabbit and 5ft for a larger rabbit. Another way to gauge the length of the rabbit hutch is to allow room for your rabbit to make 3 or 4 hops along the length of the rabbit hutch. The width of rabbit hutch should be enough for your rabbit to lie across comfortably and the height of the hutch must allow for the rabbit to stand up on its hind legs and not bend its ears.

Step 4
After you’ve determined the ideal size of rabbit hutch, you’ll need to think about what you can afford. Rabbit hutches come in many different designs but as a minimum they should have a separate enclosed room for a sleeping area and a small outside area for fresh air.
